In-person Business Networking | What Can Only Happen Face-to-Face or Mask-to-Mask
PRO Networking • January 28, 2021
Face-to-face and sometimes mask-to-mask networking is critical to building great business relationships for 3 simple reasons.
1. You get honest
feedback quickly.
When you are face-to-face it's easier to tell someone the truth because you can add context. The conversation is also just between you. There is no record that can be referenced later. Contrast that to email or social media where it is much harder to add context. Your conversation is also privy to any internet troll who wants to add their unsolicited opinion to the conversation.
2. Body language
Ever hear of the 7-38-55 rule? 7 percent of meaning is communicated through spoken word, 38 percent through tone of voice, and 55 percent through body language. Without face-to-face communication, you lose emotional connection. And emotional connection is what sells.
3. Avoid Misunderstandings
When meeting in-person, you know who you are talking to and can respond accordingly. You can focus on what’s important to the person in front of you and how you can help. When you hit publish on the web, there is no tailoring, no instant feedback loop, and no body language to read.
